Placebo - Every You Every Me - Meaning of the song
Cruel Intentions, starring Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, featured this song on the soundtrack. It appears at the very beginning of the film. The lyrics reflect the movie's tone and plot, particularly Ryan's character, Sebastian. Although he sets out to hurt this girl in order to win a bet, he ends up falling in love with her, only to lose her in the film's tragic ending.
Brian Molko responded in a 1998 interview when asked who this song is about:
I'm not entirely certain yet. I believe it is about a large number of people. Probably anyone... anyone who has had the misfortune of sleeping with me."
In fact, Molko's troubled love life inspired the majority of the material in Without You I'm Nothing.
"The majority of these are love songs in which I'm trying to come to terms with relationships," she says. "They're frequently told from the perspective of ex-lovers, so it may appear that I'm being arrogant at first, but I'm actually eating humble pie. I'm going to cut open a vein and let it bleed for you."
Every you every me - Lyrics
Sucker love is heaven sent
You pucker up, our passion's spent
My heart's a tart, your body's rent
My body's broken, yours is bent
Carve your name into my arm
Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed
'Cause there's nothing else to do
Every me and every you
Sucker love, a box I choose
No other box I choose to use
Another love I would abuse
No circumstances could excuse
In the shape of things to come
Too much poison come undone
'Cause there's nothing else to do
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Sucker love is known to swing
Prone to cling and waste these things
Pucker up for heaven's sake
There's never been so much at stake
I serve my head up on a plate
It's only comfort, calling late
'Cause there's nothing else to do
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Like the naked leads the blind
I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind
Sucker love I always find
Someone to bruise and leave behind
All alone in space and time
There's nothing here but what here's mine
Something borrowed, something blue
Every me and every you
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
Every me and every you
Every me
