Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones

Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones - About the song

The Misfits' seventh single, "Dig Up Her Bones," is a punk rock song. It was the first single released by the band's reformed lineup after the original lineup disbanded in 1983. It was the only single from their 1997 album American Psycho, and the accompanying music video was the first official Misfits video.

The Misfits' first incarnation was active from 1977 to 1983. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, bassist Jerry Only and his brother, guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, sued singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig for writing credits and the rights to the Misfits name. As a result, an out-of-court settlement was reached in 1995, granting Only and Doyle the rights to record and perform as the Misfits while Danzig shared merchandising rights. They quickly reformed the band, bringing in singer Michale Graves and drummer Dr. Chud. The new lineup released American Psycho in 1997, with the seventh track "Dig Up Her Bones."

John Cafiero, who also directed the video for "American Psycho," directed the music video for "Dig Up Her Bones." It was the Misfits' first official music video, and it was made up of live footage of the band, Graves singing in a mock graveyard, and clips from the 1935 horror film Bride of Frankenstein. The cover image for the single was an image of the Bride. Sarah Karloff, Boris Karloff's daughter, granted permission to use her father's likeness as the Monster in the film. The estate of Elsa Lanchester, who played The Bride, also granted permission to use her likeness. The music video was released in two versions, the only difference being that one version included an intro with the Universal Pictures logo from the 1930s and a dialogue clip from Bride of Frankenstein. On June 22, 1997, live portions of the video were shot at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI.

The video premiered on MTV's 120 Minutes and was later shown on the Sci Fi Channel. It aired alongside the "American Psycho" video on MTV, MTV Europe, MTV Japan, MTV Latin America, MTV Brasil, MuchMusic, and The Box.

Dig Up Her Bones - Lyrics

Anything is what she is

Anywhere is where she's from

Anything is what she'll be

Anything as long as it's mine

And the door it opens is the way back in

Or is it the way back out?

Anyplace is where she'll be

Anyplace, she'll see you from

Lies and secrets become your world

Anytime, anywhere she takes me away

And death climbs up the steps one by one

To give you the rose that's been burnt by her son

Point me to the sky above

I can't get there on my own

Walk me to the graveyard

Dig up her bones

I have seen the demon's face

I have heard of her death place

I fall down on my knees in praise of the

Horrible things that took her away

And death climbs up the steps one by one

To give you the rose that's been burnt by her son

Point me to the sky above

I can't get there on my own

Walk me to the graveyard

Dig up her bones

Point me to the sky above

I can't get there on my own

Walk me to the graveyard

Dig up her bones

Bones
