Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way - About the song
This was written by Lindsey Buckingham as a message to Stevie Nicks. It describes their breakup, with the most obvious line being, "Packing up, shacking up is all you want to do," and concludes that he is better off without her - she can do her own way as far as he is concerned. Stevie insisted that she never slept with anyone when they went out and asked Lindsey to take out the line, but he refused.
Stevie Nicks stated: "It was definitely a song with a message. And not a particularly pleasant one at that."
The bitterness in the verse lyrics is frequently lost in this song, which is overshadowed by a refrain that suggests adventure and individuality. Later, Fleetwood Mac encouraged this translation, as the song evolved into a singalong stadium stomper at their live shows, with no trace of the resentment that fueled it. They even performed it live after Buckingham was fired in 2018, with Neil Finn singing his part and Mike Campbell taking the guitar solo.
Go Your Own Way - Lyrics
Loving you Isn't the right thing to do How can I ever change things that I feel? If I could Baby I'd give you my world How can I When you won't take it from me? You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way Tell me why Everything turned around Packing up Shacking up's all you wanna do If I could Baby I'd give you my world Open up Everything's waiting for you You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way
